Most constant-voltage LED strips can be dimmed when the power supply, controller and control method are compatible. The strip itself is only one part of the system; poor component matching is the usual cause of flicker or limited dimming range.

Pulse-width modulation switches the output rapidly and changes the proportion of on-time. It is the most common method for 12 V and 24 V strips and normally maintains color better than reducing voltage.
A compatible phase-cut, 0–10 V, DALI or other dimmable driver receives a building-control signal and adjusts its DC output. Confirm the exact input protocol and minimum load.
RGB, RGBW and tunable-white strips require a controller with one output channel for each color channel. Addressable strips use data signals and a compatible pixel controller rather than a standard single-channel dimmer.

Only when the selected LED driver explicitly supports that dimmer type.
Lower average power can reduce heat, but lifetime still depends on driver quality, thermal design and operating conditions.
Leakage current, an incompatible dimmer or controller design can cause a faint glow. Verify compatibility rather than adding improvised loads.
